EU Parliament Votes to Ban New Combustion Engine Cars by 2035

Ban Part of Climate Change Mitigation Efforts

In a landmark vote, the European Union Parliament has approved a proposal to effectively ban the sale of new combustion engine cars and vans by 2035. The measure, part of the EU's larger efforts to mitigate climate change, aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles.

Carbon Emissions Reduction

The ban, which passed with 340 votes in favor, is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. Combustion engines, which rely on fossil fuels, are a major source of greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming. By phasing out these vehicles, the EU hopes to incentivize the adoption of electric cars and other clean energy alternatives.
